Yesterday was so a day for heart-wrenching kittens it is not even funny.

First, we've got Jason pointing out this news story about French fishermen using live kittens and puppies as shark bait.

*eyes get wide*

Then we've got an entire day full of Quinn talking about a basket of hypothetical kittens. Orphan kittens that are lonely and hungry and wet and cold because they've been splashed by passing cars since some hard-hearted person left them on a curb. Some mean kid kicked them, so they're bruised and mewing pitifully. Their basket is broken down and their blanket is thin and full of holes.

*eyes get wide and teary*

Now, he's been talking about these Little Match Girl kittens ALL DAY. With SOUND EFFECTS. Which he happens to be VERY GOOD AT. Then we went and saw The Brothers Grimm.

WHERE A PLUMP FUZZY ADORABLE KITTEN GETS KICKED INTO A RAZOR FAN/SCREW THING IN THE TORTURE CHAMBER.

AND EXPLODES.

*bursts into tears*

Kittens, man. They make me die from the cute and the helpless.

Watching all this hurricane stuff is incredibly depressing. Mom is upset because Uncle Frank lives in between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and she doesn't know if he's okay or not. He's really old, so she doesn't know if he got out or not, although I think he did.

Other than that, I don't know. In the wake of the 2004 Tsunami, you heard about people helping each other and whatnot. With this, the nice people stories are in the minority, and the rest seems to be about people looting. I was watching some news show this morning and these people! They've got some balls, just walking into stores and taking stuff in full view of the cameras. Even the fucking cops were doing it. One cop was like, "I'm just doing my job," as she heaved a DVD player into the basket full of stuff she was in the middle of taking. What-the-fuck-ever.

I think I'd like to do a report on the breakdown of society in the wake of disasters. Maybe for anthropology. Because seriously, it goes both ways, but it goes both ways to extremes. If you take the emotion out of it, it's fascinating.
