April is National Poetry Month. Hark, I have decided to observe National Poetry Month by writing a Poem. And also by reading Emily Dickinson, and getting myself quite confused. Yerp.

"Idle Thoughts on a Tuesday Morning"

There is war overseas
Yesterday seven women were shot
(By Americans, at a checkpoint)
Their crime, it seems,
Was passing go without rolling the dice.
Here at home, little changes
Protected as we are
By two near-unassailable oceans.
It doesn’t really touch us.
Bottles of Coke are still two for one at Eckerd’s
I plan to watch Will & Grace at nine.
There is laundry I have to put away
It started out in the washbasket this morning
But ended up dumped onto the beige carpet
As I searched for clean socks.
War overseas; laundry (clean) on my floor.
Bombs there. Unfolded fabric here.
Just fabric- that’s all.
Unfolded clothes have no meaning.
And I wonder, somewhat idly, as I glance at a rumpled cotton shirt
If the veils of seven women
Would fit into my washbasket,
Or would it be too much?
Would it take another load
To wash all that cloth?
