Anyway, these are MY thoughts on Nesting Dolls- pre-reading Karen's post. Just raw reaction, yo. *grins*

~ I love Grissom's enthusiasm. Okay? Can I just say that? It's disturbing, but endearing. And I love the little cop-out at the end of the scene, when he leave Catherine to clean up his mess/fuckup. Heh.

~ Catherine got to do the episode's Grissomism! Like whoa! (Grissomism: the (usually corny) line that Grissom says just before they cut to the opening credits.)

~ *sigh* All right. First off, I'd like to say that almost every single thing Sara said in her little rant was true. However, she shouldn't have said it. But I guess if she kept her mouth shut, then there wouldn't be a show, would there? So- thumbs up for telling Catherine off. It's about time someone did. I thought it was a little over the top since Cath wasn't really being a bitch to her, but it was a straw-that-broke-the-camel's-back type of deal. But she does play up her sexuality to get what she wants an awful lot. Flirting with co-workers, playing it up to suspects, etc. Not that I blame her. Quite the opposite- if I was her I'd probably do it, too; Cath's one of those people that doesn't really worry about whether the ends justify the means, within reason. But I digress.

Telling off Ecklie? Again, uncalled for, but about damn time. Sara's just saying what everyone's been thinking, and her standing up for Grissom was really kind of touching. Also, I love how she took his yelling at her. "Fine." (read: "Fine. Fuck you and the horse you road in on.") And I love- LOVE- how she refuses to apologize to Catherine. We loves the defiant Sara, precious, yesssss.

~ Sara's background: I didn't see that coming. At all. I don't really think anyone in fandom did, either- at least, it's not a one of the theories that I've ever seen. Usually the theories ran to stuff like this:

- father beat mother (and/or Sara)
- stepfather/boyfriend beat mother (and/or Sara)
- her mother beat her/starved her/whatever
- rape in some context

Which isn't to say that none of those happened. Obviously Sara had a pretty fucked up childhood, and there's more to it than murder. Even if it explains the anger about domestic violence cases, it doesn't go into her issues about rape, and why that subject is a trigger for her. But I didn't ever guess that her mother killed her father. Whoa! Drama. (...and you know this is only going to aid and abet my Kill Bill/CSI crossover obsession, right?)

~ OMG I WANT HER APARTMENT SO BAD. This may only be because I loved her windows- long, filmy curtains and she clearly had a nice city view behind them, and I'm such a sucker for city views- and the walls were purple. I think I would kill for purple walls. However, her yellow furniture is kind of ugly and needs to go.

~ What music was she listening to? Who was that singing? Whose is the face in the mask? Seriously, I need that album, whoever that was.

~ AWWW GRISSOM HELD HER HAND AND DIDN'T LOOK TOO WEIRDED OUT WHEN SHE CRIED!!!

~ I love Greg in this ep. Love him, love him, love him to bits. It's nice to know that Sara's got someone on her side. (I guess she has Grissom, but Grissom's Grissom, you know? Ehhhhh...)

~ OMGWTF???? Was that just me or was Ecklie's arm draped around the back of Catherine's chair? My, my, aren't we getting cozy. I guess he found Sofia's replacement. Apparently he likes blondes.

I like Ecklie. I can't help it. He's the guy you love to hate. And I liked him in this ep. I just about died in the last scene, where Grissom sticks up for Sara to Ecklie and Catherine, and Ecklie says, "She's a loose cannon with a gun. She's all yours." ...or whatever it was.

~ Lastly: Catherine. I'm always on the fence about her- sometimes I like her, sometimes I don't. I like her more than not lately, and though I had some mixed feelings in this episode, I liked how she handled Sara, kind of. She seemed to realize that it wasn't her, particularly, that there was something else under the surface and kind of let it slide. Like when she wouldn't talk about what happened with -Warrick, I think? she seemed really quiet. She strikes me as the person that if she had been really mad or insulted, she would have told him, and then called Sara a bitch under her breath or something like that. So she gets props for taking the high road.

However, she should get her ass kicked for being all "What are you going to do about Sara?" to Grissom- god knows she's pulled enough crap. Actually, way more crap than Sara ever has. SHE BLEW UP THE LAB, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. And used the DNA lab without professional reason to. And gotten into 'scenes' with Eddie in the hallways. Etc. Etc. And she never really got more than a slap on the wrist for any of that, except when she blew up the lab, I guess.

[ETA: Technically, I don't think Catherine would be working for the LVPD anyway. I don't think. This is stemming from a discussion we had in CRJ the other day- my professor said that going to work for the police department, or anything like that, is like living in a fishbowl. They don't even hire people with bad credit ratings, for fear that it would make them look bad. You have to have an absolutely spotless record to work in law enforcement, and pass lie detector tests to get in- with those conditions, do you really think that an ex-drug addict, ex-stripper would get a high profile job in the crime lab?]

~ Anyway, I loved this episode. Period. And I actually had the foresight to tape it, so I can watch it over and over YAY and feed my unhealthy obsession. However, I think it pretty much blew fandom right out of the water. Do you realize how many fanfics are going to be rendered obsolete, lol. Whoo boy. This is going to be a fun adjustment.

I wonder if CBS will change Sara's profile on the official site? Cause it's still the vanilla "her parents loved her but didn't understand her because they were happy hippies running a B&B" thing. Also, what happened to the Mysterious Brother, who got a one sentence mention back in the day?

Holes, holes, the whole thing is full of holes.

OMG KAREN HOW ARE WE GOING TO PLAY THIS????

I don't really think anyone in fandom did, either- at least, it's not a one of the theories that I've ever seen.

Actually recently I've seen a couple fanfics with that theory in it though usually it was much more convoluted than what we got, which is probably a good thing. That we got he simple version, I mean.

Even if it explains the anger about domestic violence cases, it doesn't go into her issues about rape, and why that subject is a trigger for her.

Well her issues with rape could be an extention of her issues against domestic violence--it also involves volience against women, often by someone they know, so...

OMG I WANT HER APARTMENT SO BAD.

DUDE. Was looking at the apartment and thinking, that place? So Sara. Like even all the little things just seemed to suit her --the prints on the walls, that really cool carved wooden screen... I dunno, just instantly it didn't seem like soundstage, it jsut seemed like...Sara. :-) Yay to the set design/prop people!

So- thumbs up for telling Catherine off. It's about time someone did.

WORD to that, thouhg I agree it seemed a little heavier than needed considering Cath wasn't being a supreme bitch, but yeah. Gee Cath, now that you're a supervisor you can forget all the times Sara has had to try and talk some sense into you when you were flying off the handle? (ie. with the carny in...that ep in Season 1, with Eddie's case in "Lady Heather's Box") I mean, Sara has actually had to take Cath aside and say, "Hello? Objectivity? Calm the fuck down, Cath."

I don't know. I'm starting to not like Aath more and more because I'm starting to see her selfishness more. I mean, She flies off the handle at people (ie. with Eddie's case, with Grissom about her evaluation for the supervisor position, countless other times, using the lab for her own purposes during an investigation seems pretty selfish too), and we never hear her say "Gee, sorry I was such a bitch." I dunno, times like this it seems like she feels there's one standard for her and one for everyone else, and she can run roughshod over whoever she wants to and they'll just understand/forgive her.

You know, I would have loved it if Grissom had answered her "What are you going to do about Sara" question with "Oh, the same thing I've always done with you, Cath, with all your screwups. Either blithely ignore them thinking you've learned your lesson or cover your ass, while I try and help you to work out your own problems and so make you a better CSI and maybe a more responsible person, instead of blindly punishing you which wouldn't have done as much good. Though maybe with you I should have just let you be written up." But then I think that's more me than Grissom. :-)

Anyway, enough ranting.

I love Greg in this ep. Love him, love him, love him to bits.

DUDE, hell yeah. I love how he just said "what can we do?", like he naturally beleives that they should help, without questioning it. Also that brought up the fact that Sara has always had his back--effectively reminding Cath that she's a good person and a good CSI, who's often looked out for others on the team.

((Okay, you know it's sad when you have to cut a comment because it exceeds the maximum length. Anyway, here's the rest of it. :->))

Ecklie says, "She's a loose cannon with a gun. She's all yours."

Snerk. Love the double meanings during that scene. "She's a good criminalist and I need her." *giggle*

AND OMFG THAT SCENE. Grissom obviously getting really emotional about Sara's story and when she started crying... Guh. Broke my heart, both her (really well done) crying and his look of anguish. And the hand-holding. *wibbles* Of course I was yelling at him to hug her, but I knew it wasn't gonna happen. :-)

God, what a powerful ep. Dude, if those two don't get Emmy nods for this, I am going to be so. pissed. off. As pissed off as I was about the lack of nods for a certain episode of 24 last season. And considering I'm still very, very bitter about that? Yeah. The academy should watch out.

OMG KAREN HOW ARE WE GOING TO PLAY THIS????

OMG I KNOW, WAS SO THINKING THAT THE ENTIRE TIME (well, that and "OMG that's exactly how I would have written Grissom!" which was really kinda sad). I think we can safely have Grissom and Sara be a little more friendly--more approaching what was going on in Season 1 (though maybe not quite there, as conflict is so much fun to write). And I can probably get away with Grissom being a little more overtly supportive. I don't think we should have them making out in storage cupboards any time soon though (damn).

And I'll have that RP up soon--just have to finish the end bit, as the idea I had for the last lines kind of flew out of my head when I actually went to write it last night. Though the after effects of the episode might have had something to do with that. :-)

Holy mother of shit, dude. Okay, long story short- it's now come out that Sara's mother stabbed her father to death. When Sara was like, right there.

And she called Catherine a slut.
(Not in those words, obviously.)

And she told Ecklie to fuck off.
(Again, not in those words.)

AND THEN GRISSOM WOULDN'T FIRE HER LIKE ECKLIE TOLD HIM TO, AND SAID SHE'S A GOOD CRIMINALIST AND I NEED HER!!!!! OMGSQUEE!!!

And then Ecklie told Grissom, "She's a loose cannon with a gun- and she's all yours." And then Grissom and Catherine just Looked at each other.

ROLL CREDITS!!!

There has been much squeeing and much raising of eyebrows. Revelations of DOOOOOOOOOM and Catherine being a bitch. I swear the power's going to her head. Plus there hasn't been any more C/W, so I cry alot. And Grissom and Sara are... Grissom and Sara. TPTB try to trick us into thinking they make some kind of progress but they never do, the bastards.

How is your flu going? I hope you feel better, O Illustrious Queen of Mine.

*raises an eyebrow* When did I become Queen of You?

Sara and Grissom is angst squared, I swear. I think that's why I've started shipping C/W a bit - much chemistry and less angst. I need my angst in dozes. And TPTB seems to go back more than forward on this all. *smacks them*

*continues to write angsty G/S*

*goofily grins* Dunno. Since I said? It just sounded good. *curtsies anyway*

Honestly, TPTB have set the whole GS thing up for so much angst that there's only one way it can go- one of them has to die in the end of the show. Or the angst will just go on, and on, forever and ever... *gibbers*

*loves the YoBling in the meantime*

Far be it from me to deny you the joy of having me as a Monarch ;)

Eternal angst. Oy vey. One can wonder if this angst would continue if they actually got together, too. Or maybe then they'd just discard angst for sex.

*loves the YoBling too*

There should be a messageboard and archive for that too. Wah.
