nirix5: (sara fighter; radak)

I have this tendency to cross my fandoms into one another without remorse or thought for the consequences. With that said, I'll get on with it.

It's not so much that I'm crossing over CSI with Dragonriders (of Pern, a sci-fi series by Anne McCaffrey, which is a sketchy fandom because she banned a lot of fandom related stuff.) Dragonriders has been a giant fandom of mine since Mr. Bick's eighth grade social studies class, when Jeannette leant me "The Girl Who Heard Dragons." So I'm just toodling along on the bus, thinking about my favorite Dragonriders characters, and if they ever made the books into movies, who would play who. Cue the lightbulb- the cast of CSI would be PERFECT to play some of these characters.

Grissom- Robinton
Sara- Brekke
Catherine- that Oldtimer whose name I can't remember, but she'd be perfect as her
Greg- OMFG HE'S SO PIEMUR
Warrick- F'nor
Nick- Sebell

...and so on, and so forth. I haven't found a Lessa yet, or a Menolly, but whatever. Sara/Jorja would be the PERFECT Brekke. Which got me thinking about that character, and I'm like, well, if she's Brekke, then who's Kylara?

OMG. SOFIA!!!

So the Spork totally made my day. They are SO Brekke and Kylara. And of course Brekke kicks ass and ultimately overcomes her tragedy (which was all Kylara's fault, btw) and Kylara goes insane and gets locked away. I wonder what happened to her, actually- AM never really went into it, other than her mind was shattered. I wondered if she suicided... she never gets mentioned in the books after the queens are killed, except by various characters referring to the incident and shaking their heads in anger at her arrogance.

So either way, the Spork goes away and Sara kicks her ass and gets the guy.

I love my brain and the things it cooks up, sometimes.

Never mind that Brekke winds up with F'nor. Sara and Warrick forEVA, baby.

[ETA: I'm talking about looks more than personalities here. i.e., Sara is not a meek shadow with an astounding fear of sex. Quite the opposite. However, she looks like what I always kind of imagined Brekke looking like, and could play the part easily. Ditto Grissom/Robinton. Kind of.]

Lol, I think Greg would be more like Jaxom myself. Warrick being F'nor though... that I totally agree with. :)

No, you don't understand. I've been trying to get my friends to read that series for forever, and with the exception of two of them, no one did, so only two people know what I'm talking about if I start waxing melodramatic about wanting a fire lizard, or the weird phobia I have of beaches with very yellow sand, lol. :-D

...Hmm. I could see Greg as Jaxom, but he strikes me more as Piemur because he starts out as an off-beat, mischievous lab tech, and we kind of see him grow up. Come on- can't you see him sneaking off to the Southern Continent hidden in a sack? ;)

Hidden in a sack... yeah, I think I could. ;) Maybe you're right.

They're good books, anyway. David Eddings is my favourite author, but I like Pern.

I spent high school trying to live in Pern, lol. Obsession is too mild of a word.

What has David Eddings done?

His latest book is the sequel to The Elder Gods (don't yet know what it's called, not out over here yet I don't think), written with his wife Leigh, but he's better known for the Belgariad and the Malloreon. I run the fanlisting for his character Polgara. If you want specifics, I suggest you visit his author fanlisting. (Been trying to bribe Virve to give me that one for ages!)
