Okay, today's rant is CD producer people being jerks when it comes to putting a piece of music on a disc in its entirety.

i.e., it's fucking impossible to find a copy of the Nutcracker Suite- the whole thing. Not just highlights of.

My Essential Ballet CD has the entire second act. Only the entire second act. WTF? What about the first half of the damn ballet???

It has:

~ The Magic Castle on the Mountain of Sweets
~ Clara and Prince Charming
~ Chocolate (Spanish Dance)
~ Coffee (Arabian Dance)
~ Tea (Chinese Dance)
~ Trepak (Russian Dance)
~ Dance of the Reed Pipes
~ Polinchinelle (sometimes Marzipan/Mother Ginger)
~ Waltz of the Flowers

I just got something (deceptively!) labeled as the Nutcracker Suite from the school library. It includes:

~ The Minature Overture
~ March
~ Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy

...and Coffee, Trepak, Tea, Dance of the Reeds, and Waltz of the Flowers. But that's it. It doesn't even have most of the movements that my Essential Ballet does. Hello, stupidity.

HELLO?!?!?! Where the hell are the Snowflakes? The party scene? The battle between Nutcracker and the Mice?????

AAARRRRRRRRRGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

--- Sorry. This is vastly annoying. I want to listen to the whole thing straight through, dammit. I'm in a Nutcracker mood. It's my favorite story/ballet EVER. And I am now denied the snowflake scene. Damn you, Bolshoi recording. Damn you, Essential Ballet.

Hrm. I think I have the entire thing. But then it's a recording by the Toronto Symphony, and so I'm not sure whether you'd be able to get your hands on it.

You'd think you'd be able to find it somewhere.

Oh, and also? I feel your pain. It's the same frustration I have over getting the soundtrack to a 2+hr movie and the CD only has 45 mins. of music on it (yes, Varese Sarabande, I'm looking at YOU). HATE that.

Right? I went through that shit with LOTR. "Dear Peter Jackson: I spent a total of sixty dollars on soundtracks for your movies. Each one is an hour. However, each of the movies are over three hours. What the fuck is up with that shit. I bought the damn things for the hobbit drinking songs and elven acapella jams, and they weren't included. You unkempt bastard." Hehe!

I probably could, but I don't have the money to buy it right now. You'd think that a library would have the full version, though, especially in a college with a really good music theory program. But that's just me, I guess. I should probably lower my standards or something. *grumbles*
