I haven't been blogging about the stuff that I do here at Binger much. I'm either too tired, or too scatterbrained, or whatever. I don't know if I've talked about dance that much. Long story short, one of the doctoral students is also a dancer and dance teacher, and we wound up putting a small informal class together last semester to do ballet (Jesse, bless him, never bought into the jazz bullshit, which is the problem I always had when it took classes anywhere else- if it was in my price range, it was three plies at the barre and then 45 mintues of jazz crap.)

So it was Jesse, me, Kerry, Melissa, Hannah, and Cat. Now it's us plus Narjess and Yosra on weekends (I teach them! Whee!) Jesse told us about the company he wanted to start, taking dance to the ignorant masses. We were down with this.

Now we're legit company members!!!

I'm a professional dancer. Omg omg omg.*

Also I have a formal role in the company: the Repetetrice. I rehearse people and lead warm ups, stuff like that. I get a big stick to bang on the floor as well. I've turned into Mme. Giry, lol.

This is soooooo much fun. We've got a workshop on Sunday morning for ballet and then we're hosting one on the 5th. Exciting!

Hehe thanks. I'm very excited about it because I've always wanted to dance, and be involved in that world, but never had the money for training as a kid- I really lucked out with this, since I'm so old and untrained, lol.

Oooh, I wish, but I'm in VA. *pout* The funny thing is, I've seen both teenagers who've danced ballet since they were toddlers and adults who didn't start until they were over the age of consent...guess who danced with the most joy and passion? Hint: it wasn't the teenyboppers. :-)

Being the Repetetrice sounds like fun, although I know if you gave me a big stick to lead my bellydance troupe's warmups and rehearsals with, I'd be using it on a few heads instead. *coughResidentDivacough*

Heheh. That's why I'm so excited to get my stick- I can finally make corrections with a lasting impression. *evil snicker*

I think adults and later starters tend to take less for granted with dance, since it hasn't been spoon fed to them since the age of three. You appreciate it more, because you've lived without it. That's how I feel, anyway. Does that make sense?

I'm just happy to be dancing, honestly. I could give a crap about ever performing for a big company. We're going to be doing stuff at local schools and nursing homes, so it's a lot more personal between the dancers and the audience- makes it more meaningful, I think :)
