So, I'm a horrible person. I've always been a horrible person at heart. The difference is that now, due to accumulated lack of sleep, I let it show.

The point is, despite numerous plumbings of the depths of my soul, I can not find it in me to really care about the whole VTech thing. Nothing. Nada. My tragic empathy reserves have apparently run dry. I've been looking at the whole thing with this cold kind of detachment, and have so far shrugged off a, "Huh. Sucks," and changed the channel.

I'm not sure why this is. It seems to be something along the lines of "people die from horrific violent attacks everywhere and all the time so... what's different?" Maybe I've become desensitized. I mean, I don't laugh when things like this happen. I don't want things like this to happen, and I would never in a million years wish it on anyone. But it's like... damn. I'm supposed to care about every kid that dies in a shooting, or from cancer, or gets run over, and so on and so forth. And I get upset that I'm not more upset at all the senseless tragedy in the world.

Well, I used to get upset, anyway. Now, not so much. I attribute this to the lack of sleep thing and the fact that I'm getting bitter and cynical in my old age. At this point I'm sick of the hoopla and the dissection of minutiae, and wish that the news would report something else (and it's only been a couple of days.) Humans are horrible. This is not news. This is how it has always been. 33 people dead at VTech; suicide bombers going nuts in the Mideast, Sudan, Sierra Leone, the "disappearance" of people in South America... humanity is nothing but an endless list of violence. Sometimes I feel like screaming that all the candles lit for this and that and the other thing are absolutely pointless, because it's who we are. It's inherent. It will never change unless we evolve to become something that's not human.

And you know what? I hate thinking like that.

...I don't even know where I'm going with this whole ramble. I'll probably get bitched at about it. ZOMG I am a bad, bad person. How could I, and all that. I don't know how I can; I just do. All I know is that it's fucking late. Early. Whatever. I'm lucky if I get a good three hours of sleep a night these days, since Quinn is on the computer all the fucking time, talking to his stupid fucking friends. The guy has no ethics and barely any manners in the real world, but on the computer he's got a strict code he MUST adhere to, and has to be polite to all this online people, to the point that it takes him an hour to say goodbye. But that's a story for another time.

GAAAAH.

No, you're not alone. At first I was like "Ok there was a shooting." It was very factual to me. But then I started thinking about my school and how it could happen there and it freaked me out a bit. I do feel some sympathy for them, but not everyone has to. So long as you're not "YES! LET'S BLOW UP ALL THE SCHOOLS!" on me than you're still cool in my book.

*hugs* I feel the same way about the whole Vtech thing and I'm pissed that the guy is getting so much attention from it. You're a great person and if I were you I'd kick Quinn in the nuts and tell him you'll continuously do that if he keeps you up anymore. *hugs* I'm here for ya tho.

You know what the shit of this whole VTech thing is? It's not new. The only thing new about it is that it breaks the American College Shooting Spree Death Toll Record. Last high score was 21?...

Yes. I said high score.

I'm sick of this over-dramatization of death and carnage too. I mean, hell, the news reporters invaded an Amish settlement when they lost a bunch of children to a shooter, and those people deserve their privacy! They forgave the shooter and tried to move on. But we can't do that in the rest of America.

And what the fuck. Why don't they post news about someone donating an assload of money to fund cancer research or AIDS treatment?! Why does it always have to be sports, death, politics, death and crime/death/arson/terrorism on every fucking news station? Oh and let's not forget the bullshit surrounding the death of Anna Nichole Smith!

Jesus... Fucking... Christ... Why can't news be stuff like weddings, graduations, babies, birthdays, fire-fighters saving lives and doctors curing people? I mean, sure, not everyone wants to disclose publicly that they've had some kind of cancer or infection, but, they could at least post statistics...

example (made up): St. Joseph's Hospital helped ninety seven new children into the world today, one almost didn't make it, but she pulled through with the help of RN Eric Jones. Eric has been the leading RN in the pediatric ward, and is on his second year streak of being RN of the year...

That's not too hard... right? I mean obviously I bullshitted that whole story, but it wouldn't be too hard to look that shit up would it? At most it would be a drive to the hospital to ask for statistics and maybe some particular stories of interest.

But noooo... Death sells, and the fucking media knows it. They know explosions, gunfire and chaos sell, and that people emotively and socially feel compelled to feel bad for the people who died, so they watch the channel longer. And when the commercials are on, it drills it into their head more.

So what happens? We get stuck with the reality that there was a shooting, there is nothing we can do about it, and we have to listen to lawyers and politicians dicker about for hours about how to improve gun control!

You know what? Here's my gun control law.

As per New York State's 2007 background check requirements, all states shall require resident citizens of the ages 21 and older to submit for a psych evaluation and a background check. Those found suitable to carry a gun will then be instructed to receive gun safety training and then officer of the peace training. No man or woman shall be exempt from this training. After basic safety training, further monthly instruction on when and how to use a gun will be provided by the state, and required to be attended by all who passed their background checks and psych exams. All said individuals will be required to be armed at all times, and their sidearm shall be visible at all times, so as to serve as both a badge of age, and as a visible warning to any mothafucka who dares bring a gun to class to try going on a fucking shooting rampage! No person, suspecting another of being underage, or not authorized to carry a firearm should try to detain said suspect, but the proper authorities should be called to investigate the matter.

Sorry that was so wordy, had to look bureaucratic.

At any rate, that way, next motherfucker who tries shooting everyone would get gunned down by a bunch of angry rednecks and patriots who willingly exercise their right to bear arms.

Anyone convicted of a crime of violence would obviously not be armed, nor would someone who fails their psych exam... you get the picture.

Anywho. I agree that there's too much bullshit in the media these days. Hopefully those jackass liberals won't go thinking this is more justification to nationally ass-rape people of their right to bear arms... Because, if people really want to be terrorists, murderers and violent criminals, they only need to start buying illegal guns or using knives and explosives instead...

Sorry I ranted like this, but hopefully you get what I mean...
