Christmas Meme!

kcountess:
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Wrapping paper. I like to wrap boxes.
2. Real or Artificial tree?
Real! Always real. They smell sooooooooo good. And Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without dad shaving the stump down to the size of the holder, cursing the whole time and getting pine chips all over the living room, and then taking a nap in the middle of it all.
3. When do you put up the tree?
We're pretty traditional, and actually put up and decorate our tree on Christmas Eve, though we might get it a week before (it stays out behind the garage.)
4. When do you take the tree down?
On Ephiphany, January 6th.
5. Do you like Eggnog?
Yes I do. Mmmmmm.
6. Favorite Gift you received as a child?
My first good pair of skates, and a late season Sailor Moon subbed tape. I cried for a while that morning, I was so happy.
7. Do you have a nativity scene?
Yep. And all the grass is slowly falling off of it. The weird thing is that we don't put baby Jesus in it until Christmas morning ("Santa" puts him there.) All through Advent, Jesus lives in my mother's china cabinet, in front of the salmon platter.
8. Hardest person to buy for?
Everyone.
9. Easiest person to buy for?
Everyone.
10. Worst Christmas gift ever received
Never got one I didn't like or wasn't grateful for!
11. Christmas Cards?
I'm awful with them. It makes me hate myself.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Dogma, Shaun of the Dead, and Big Trouble in Little China are old favorites. Of course, they're not Christmas per se, but they're what my family watches on Christmas. I'd also have to go with Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. SHEER WIN.
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
*sheepishly* Christmas Eve.
14. Have you ever "recycled" a Christmas present?
Nope!
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Chinese food! and marzipan.
16. Clear lights or colored or both on the tree?
I like clear or gold-tone lights, but my mother loves colored ones, so we have those on the tree every year. Not my favorite, but whatever. They're still pretty :)
17. Favorite Christmas Song?
All the old standbys. The Christmas Song, O Holy Night (Nsync acapella version WHEE!), the entire Nutcracker Suite, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays (more Nsync...)
Although, I would like to state for the record that I HATE HATE HATE Bruce Springsteen's version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and "Christmas in Killarney".
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Our family is all far away, so we've never really traveled to see them at Christmas. Now I've gotten used to being home and not going anywhere other than the Chinese buffet or the movies on Christmas.
19. Can you name Santa's Reindeer?
Bah.
20. Do you have an Angel or a Star on top of your tree?
We have a Puerto Rican star. It's pretty nutsy. I'll try to post pics of it this year.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?
One present (pajamas or an ornament for the tree) on Christmas Eve, and the rest in the morning.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
Crass commercialization. I want a Green Gables Christmas, dammit!
23. Favorite Christmas tradition?
Until this year it's been Chinese food and zombie movies, but this year we're giving up presents, so I'm going to go ahead and say that :)
24. Family member you always try to stay away from during the holidays?
None!
25. Do you attend any actual religious services in celebration?
We go to midnight mass every year.
