Read a thing about Harry Potter ending. Cried.
Watched Atlantis touch down on earth for the last time. Cried.
Read the farewell email from the Borders CEO. Cried.

(No seriously, where the hell am I supposed to go for bookage? Barnes and Noble is great, but Borders was convenient and had a better cafe, along with smaller stores in malls that are not giant- *coughOakdalecough*)

Looked in vain for a green formal gown that's been hanging in my closet for six years or so that has mysteriously disappeared. (It's only disappeared because I NEED IT OMG. I swear I have an imp that lives on my head that takes my shit, just when I need it, and only to fuck with me. Medieval Studies may have destroyed my faith in Jesus, but not in imps.)

Wound up having breathing problems on top of heatstroke yesterday- which was weird and scary, because my lungs are (with one exception several years ago, bronchitis or something) very healthy. So, headache + nausea + faintness + breathing = unhappy Feather. Just one more thing to add to the list of why I have to be careful in heat, I guess.

In other news, I'm going to try dyeing a wig with sharpie today. I'm a little apprehensive about it. This is, of course, after I finish draping my dress, sewing the front panel, and adding the beadwork.

At some point I have to get to Bing to exchange slides with BA, but I don't want to go because the car doesn't have air conditioning and it's going to get hot again.

Blah.

Two A's and a B+ = 3.76 GPA.

Not bad for my first semester of grad school! It's like, every level I move up in education I get better grades. Achievement unlocked?

Also: day two of Hell Month. I'm planning on ordering the wigs today. After I go to the bank, get the car inspected, pay the energy bill, do the dishes, and try to return a Yankees Snuggie to the mall.

I have to figure out a way to keep the cats away from me while I sleep. Vala will sleep with me through the night, but Freya is nocturnal and she'll lick my face, chew my fingers, and knead my neck and arms with her little claws all night long. Once the birds start chirping, Vala is trying to get me up so I will feed her by licking and biting my eyes and knocking my cell phone off the table (she knows it doubles as my alarm clock, and when she does that it drives me NUTS.)

Today I've gotten six hours of bad sleep, and I'm probably going to be showing all day (they moved me from legal to rental. I'm not too much of a fan of this, but whatever.) Once Dave comes on next week to be rental agent full time, I'll be back to my normal schedule of office work from noon to 4:30, and then showing apartments evenings and Saturdays. I will be happier once this happens.

Also, attempts to get into grad school proceed apace. I had my GRE scores sent over yesterday, and paid my application fee. All I have to do now is mail in my statement of purpose, CV, and figure out what's up with my recommendation letters- ugh. This is a little too last minute for comfort for me, but Karen (my advisor) is right- it would be dumb to take a year off now.

Alas for my year off and doing all the stuff I wanted to do. Woe.

Graduated.

Hooray, yippee, yahoo!

I'm too tired to think straight.

More later.

So I have to write a 15 page paper with a historiography on St Catherine's Monastery in Mt Sinai, Egypt, to turn in tomorrow. I'm actually ahead of schedule- I already have the books to do the research. Now I just have to crack them open and write the actual paper.

I really enjoy studying Byzantine history and art. I love how I can, if I choose, make my Classics degree work for me: Rome ---> Byzantium ---> Russia. However, if I decide to do this, I have to study Greek. Greek, like, "Hey Heather, the last three years you spent busting your ass on Latin are meaningless, now start over with Greek" kind of Greek. With Scholtz. DOOOOOM.

Dating a Justin. Justin and its derivatives were popular names for Byzantine emperors and VIPs. Coincidence?

Maybe I'll change my name to Theodora.

Well, not really. However, the Long Awaited Conference is finally coming up... it's on Saturday. Seven academic papers, one living history exhibit, one dinner. We'll see who survives.

At least I'll look good- I bought my first Cuddy suit. It's some hipster kind of suit thing from Express with some tuxedo-frilly kind of tops. It does wonders for my ass, but not for my bank account. I've been telling myself for the past hour that it's an investment, I can wear it to interviews in the city, and that I can dress them up or down and thus get my money's worth.

(NO NEW KIMONO FOR A WHILE *SOB*)

I have not acknowledged for several weeks now that I have other work besides the day-to-day stuff and this conference. Somewhere, glimmering ominously on the scholastic horizon, is a 15 page paper, an 8 page paper, two finals, and an oral debate in an outdoor ampitheater about going to war with Rome.

(I'm one of the Carthaginian monarchists. Whee! Yay Carthage!)

After that, graduation and the real world. For a year, anyway, and then it's back into the unreality that is grad school and academia.

ROFL.

I love Winston Black's classes, but the day I don't have to do a reading response will be the best day of my LIFE.

Also, I hate philosophers. Assholes should have gotten off their asses and gotten an job or done something constructive, rather than torture me personally thousands of years after their deaths.

...the downstairs neighbors are warbling again. What the hell.

I've been away from LJ for a while, obviously. Nothing much has changed terribly, except, it has. Mostly for the better.

I GOT BRACES FINALLY OMG OMG OMG.

Got over last spring's weirdness.
Moved to a different apartment (and about to move again- joy.)
Graduating in May...
...but I have to get through the conference in April.
(History of Underwear for the win?)
Helped build a dock. Went to Ohayocon. Bought more kimono ("It's not an addiction, IT'S A COLLECTION.")
Struggling with Latin, with philosophy, with academia in general.

GOT A KITTEN AND SHE IS THE MOST WONDERFUL THING IN THE WORLD.

Her name is Valacyclovir Normandy.

Got braces.

Went to Staten Island for Easter for the first time in ages and ages.

Spent my first Christmas away from home.

Wrote the first paper I've ever gotten really excited about.

Read some good books.

Fell on my ass in the snow.

Made some serious pie.

PIE!

Have a headache. So do not need it right now.

More importantly, I can't focus on my studying. I have three finals tomorrow:

- a paper to present for Latin (just got my article a couple of hours ago. Damn you, Interlibrary Loan. If you had just processed my fucking request when I asked you to instead of dicking around, I would have had this done by now, and I wouldn't have to worry about it.)

- seven pages of Cicero's Philippic to study for a translation test

- and my Byzantine Art and Architecture final.

Managing to keep my attention on any of this? Impossible, as it turns out. Schoolwork fail.

Fuck. Fuck fuck fuckedy fuck fuck.

Finished my term paper and poured myself into bed at three thirty this morning. Woo.

Made it through last weekend's CEMERS conference with only minor scratches. Mostly minor.

Made it through the play the weekend before that only flubbing my lines once. Joy. Triumph. I look like an idiot in a helmet, which I suppose was my job, but still.

Found a new apartment which we'll be moving into at the end of May. I'll be staying in Binger over the summer, after all.

Still to do:

~ get my work together to show Karen for my IS
~ Cicero oral report
~ comedy video presentation

...all of which have to be done this weekend.

And laundry.

Need more sleep before thinking about anything else.

Latin: have to read a bunch of stuff, translate a bunch of stuff, work on my speech presentation.

Ancient Comedy: collect costumes and props, make the sedan thing, make the backstage sail. Also need to finish and hand in my midterm. Like, today.

Byzantine Art: have a test on Thursday. Need to study. Need to actually get some answers right this time.

12th. C. Silk: have most of my sources together. Have to go pick up two more, read and annotate two, and then I'm good to start writing my paper. I think. Hoo boy.

Household: is weird. We rent from J's uncle, who, apparently, thinks it's okay to go through the house when we're not there, since they're family or something? Obviously, this is a problem. Must stop. I mean, what if someone's in the shower? What if someone's having sex on the living room floor? What if it's the summer, and it's really hot, and I'm walking around naked like I'm wont to do in the summer when it's hot and I'm home alone? What if he walks in on an underwear party? OMG OMG.

Headaches: hurt. Annoy me. Make me want to hurt things. The neurologist moved my appointment from the end of the month to tomorrow. Yay? I don't see what good it will do.

Cranky. Hormonal. Hungry. Tired. Tired because I was up till 2 doing work. Angry because J wouldn't go to sleep. He's more tired than I am. Tried to sleep in my own room; attempt was sabotaged. Slept in his. Angry at myself because I move around and talk in my sleep which wakes him up which makes him tired and he's getting over pneumonia and mono and meningitis and everything else and needs his sleep but he won't sleep without me and I keep him awake and I get upset because then I feel bad because he feels bad and it's all my fault.

(Do I get some sort of prize for that run-on sentence?)

Mehhhhhhhhh.
